Accountants come in all professional shapes and sizes.  Anybody can call themselves accountants, however they usually embark on a series of examinations set by one of several professional bodies.  Upon completion of all of these they are accredited to that body.  There is also a vast army of people who are effectively part-qualified or unqualied accountants or bookkeepers. Accountants provide a range of services to cover most or all requirements your business requirements.  You may find perfectly adequate accountancy help from someone working from home charging £20 an hour, as from a firm of accountants charging over £100 an hour.  A good accountant, if yoiur business requires it, ought to be able to produce meaningful monthly or quarterly management accounts, give advice on taxation planning issues and give good business advice appropriate to your business.
